Dry Embossed Sunflower You Are Loved Card - Spot Challenge #166

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I have a fun card using a technique that is from way back but in the card making world is making a comeback.  You may be wondering what I am talking about.  Well I am talking about dry embossing on vellum.  Which is how I created my card today for this weeks creative challenge over at The Spot.

Dry Embossing without Embossing Folders:

This technique came out in the 80's and at that time you used a stylus and a little metal plate to emboss with.  Now you can still do this fun technique with just a stamped image that you colored and the stylus.  Which is what I did today. I stamped  my image in Stazon Jet Black Ink onto a piece of Vellum Cardstock.  Once the image was completely dry I flipped it over and colored on the back of the vellum with my Stampin' Blends and a Stampin' Write Marker.

For the coloring I used Pale Papaya and Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends to color the sunflower from the Celebrate Sunflower Stamp Set.  I then colored the leaves with my Coastal Cabana Stampin' Write Marker.  I heat set all the ink and then when back over the image again with these colors.  I used the dark Stampin' Blends in each of the colors.  After each layer I would heat set it.

After that I came back in with my colored vellum and my stylus from my Simply Score Scoring Tool and the stylus ends of the Take Your Pick Tool and started making delicate and details lines on the sunflower.  This created the highlights that you see on each petal and the center of the sunflower.  For the leaves I debossed them by using the stylus on the front of the vellum to press into the lines of the leaves to create the vanes.  Once all the embossing was complete I attached the vellum to a cardstock frame that I made from Coastal Cabana Cardstock with the Rectangle Stitched Dies.

I attached the vellum and frame to my card base with Tear & Tape Adhesive.  I then added some of the detailed sunflowers cut from Basic White Cardstock attached to a piece of Adhesive Sheet.  This allowed me to attach the detailed image to the card with ease.  I then heat embossed my sentiment onto a scrap of Coastal Cabana Cardstock and cut it out with another of the Rectangle Stitched Dies.  I popped this up on Stampin' Dimensionals.  And finished off my card by adding a few Basic Rhinestones that I colored with my Stampin' Blends.
