Warm Wishes - Poinsettia Petals The Spot Challenge #134

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you my card for this week's challenge over at The Spot.  This week's challenge is a very fun card sketch.  I picked the Poinsettia Petals Stamp set from the August - December Mini Catalog along with the Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper to create my card with today.

I wanted to do something fun and festive with the sketch for this week's challenge, but wasn't quite sure what I wanted to use until I sat down and actually was reorganizing my designer series paper and putting the scraps into sleeves.  I as was doing this I was actually on this pack of designer series paper and it hit me that the scraps on my table was perfect.  Isn't it funny how things just fall into place sometimes.   Here's a look at the card that I created for this week's challenge.

Sailing Home - The Spot Sketch Challenge #105

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you my card that I made for this week's sketch challenge over at The Spot.  For my card I decided to go with products from the Come Sail Away Suite from the 2019 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog.  I actually picked this suite because of the sentiment that I used on my card.  I thought it was just a very uplifting and encouraging message.  And I know that a lot of people need to here that today.  Here's a look at my card.

Here's a look at the challenge that inspired my card.  You can click on the image below to visit us at The Spot to see what the other design team members came up with using this week's sketch.

Tips & Tricks:

I started out my card design by attaching a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper after attaching it to a mat made from a 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 piece of Balmy Blue Cardstock.  I then attached it to my Soft Suede card base (5 1/2 x 8 1/2).  Once I had the basics part of the card created I used the Layering Squares Dies to cut out three medium Soft Suede squares and three smaller squares from the designer series paper.  I keep with patterns in the blues from the designer series paper pack.  One reason for this choice was because blues and brown pair really nicely together.  Brown is considered a Earth Red or Earth Orange in the art world, and blue is the complementary color of orange.  So where I am going, yes, I am sneaking in a little color theory to my project.

After cutting out the squares I attached them to each other with a little Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  I then attached a skinny strip of DSP to a skinny Soft Suede Strip and added it to the card front.  I then arranged the squares as you see above and as in the sketch.  I then stamped the lighthouse from the stamp set in Soft Suede and the sentiment in Night of Navy Classic Inks and used the matching dies from the Smooth Sailing Dies and attached them to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

To finish off my card I added one of the anchors from the Sail Away Trinkets using a mini glue dot and added a small bow made from the Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker's Twine.  I hope that you like my card and that it gave you a little sense of hope in this trying time.  I also hope that you will take a little time a play along with us over at The Spot this week.  This is a really fun creative challenge and will make you think outside the box and explore your creativity.  Thanks for dropping by.

Happy Stampin'
