Ink Transfer with Stencils - Spot Challenge #165

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you a super fun little card and fun technique that will allow you to do ink transfer using stencils and you will be super surprised just how easy it is.  Here's a look at my project for today.

Find out all the details about how I made this card below.

Stencil it Up:

Picking out the perfect stencil for todays project was no easy task.  I wanted something that would make a statement just like the technique I used today.  So, after careful consideration and some playing around with all the stencils I had I ended up picking one of the new Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks.   My card today is also part of this weeks Creative Challenge at the Spot.  I will share more information about that a little later.

The Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks will allow you to create flowers, flourishes, and more. They can be used with many different coloring techniques such as sponging, inking, and applying embossing paste plus many many more. With the Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks you can create a monochromatic look or use all the colors.  It's all up to you on how you want to color your project.  You'll love seeing what you can do!

Ink Transfer with a Stencil:

So to create the background of the card I started out by inking up the background cardstock with Poppy Parade, Pale Papaya, and Pumpkin Pie Inks.  Next I placed the stencil (decorative mask) over the ink blended background.  I then placed a half of a baby wipe over the stencil and ran it through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine with a embossing mat.  The wet baby wipe and being pressed through the stencil with the pressure of the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine allowed the background to not only transfer the ink to the baby wipe but embossed the stencil to the cardstock as well.

The wet baby wipe creates a lighter layer of ink through the cardstock.  The decorative mask acts as a mask for the ink not exposed to the wet baby wipe.  So, the ink underneath stays nice and bright.  As I said it's super easy.  It does matter how tick your baby wipe is by the way.  I used a pampers one for this card but it was really thin and didn't pull as much ink off.  I used a thicker one on another card front and it pulled off more ink.

Ornate Thanks:

I thought that the sentiments from the Ornate Thanks Stamp Set was the perfect compliment to the stencil used for the background.  I took the large Thank You from the stamp set and heat embossed it in Black Embossing Powder from the Basic Embossing Powders Set onto Basic White Cardstock.  For the two small sentiments I reversed the cardstock and embossing colors and embossed them both in White Embossing Powder onto Basic Black Cardstock.  Before adding the sentiments I added a Gold Foil Fern that I cut out from some Gold Foil Sheets using the Forever Flourish Dies.

The Spot Challenge #165:

As I mentioned above this weeks creative challenge over at the Spot Challenge Blog is a Stencil Challenge.  You can fin all the details about the challenge and check out what the other design team members came up with to inspire you by clicking here.  Here's a look at the challenge image that inspired my card.

Finishing Touches:

To finish off the card I took the card front and cut it out with the Stitched Rectangle Dies along with a Basic Black Cardstock mat cut with the next size up rectangle die.  I took some scraps of cardstock about four or five and cut them down to fit just behind the card front.  I just glued them together and placed the glued panels behind the card front.  I then placed that on the card base.

To add a little more gold and shine to the card I added some of the Gilded Gems around the card.
