United Through Creativity Sailing Away Card

You are not a drop in the ocean.  You are the entire ocean in a drop.  I loved this quote by Rumi that was part of the United Through Creativity Digital Download and is the sentiment from the digital stamps that I picked for my card  today.  Hello and welcome to my blog; I am glad that you are here.

During my weekly Facebook Live last night I shared how to make this card and how to do some simple watercoloring with your ink pads.  I go live every week on Tuesday nights at 8:30 pm CST on my Facebook Business Page.  You can join me there each week for a live card making session.

Use the Unexpected:

On my card today I used probably some very unexpected designer series paper.  If you are verse in the Stampin' Up! Catalogs you may recognize this paper from the January-June Mini Catalog.  It's from the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper Pack.  Sometimes I love to take an unexpected item and use it with something that you may not have thought of.  I thought that the feeling of this piece of Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper with it's cool tone watercolor washes was perfect for this card.  Especially since I was doing a little watercoloring with my ink pads.

So, after attaching my piece of designer series paper to a Basic White Cardstock mat layer I attached it to my Bermuda Bay card base.  Next, I took a piece of Basic White Cardstock and stamped my sail boat image from the Sailing Home Stamp Set in Bermuda Bay Ink. I then took my Wink of Stella Clear Brush pen (one of my favorite items to use for watercoloring with ink) and went over the water area that I had stamped.  By doing this as soon as you stamp the image you can move the dye ink around to create a watercolor effect.  Once that was complete I let it dry in case I want to add another layer of color from my ink pad.

Next I added a little Old Olive to the sails.  But this time I picked the color up from my ink pad instead using the ink in a more traditional watercolor technique.  After letting each layer dry I added more color to create the darker tones and values.  You have to be careful when doing this because I was only using Basic White Cardstock and it will not hold up to a lot of moisture.  Once dried I added this piece to a mat made from Bermuda Bay Cardstock and attached it to the card.  I then wrapped some of the Crumb Cake Baker's Twine from the Baker's Twine Essentials Twine Combo Pack around the card and tied it into a bow.

Finishing Touches:

To finish off my card I punched out the sentiment from the United Through Creativity Digital Download that I had printed onto some Basic White Cardstock.  I decided to use the Everyday Label Punch for this.  I just love the fun basic shape it gives.  And one of the coordinating colors in this Free digital download is Bermuda Bay so it was perfect the perfect color to pick.  I then added two Blue Adhesive Backed Gems to the punch out.  I went with the gems that had a more iridescent look to them because when in the light they had both my Bermuda Bay and Old Olive colors in them.  So, they were the perfect compliment to my project.
