Explosion Gatefold Card - Wishes & Wonder Stampin' Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you the card I made yesterday during my Facebook Live.  If you have never joined me before I go live every Wednesday at 3 pm CST on my Facebook Business page to share a new card design with you.  This week I shared how to make an explosion gatefold card using the Wishes & Wonder Bundle from Stampin' Up!.

When you look at the explosion gatefold card you may think that it's super complicated, and I can totally see why you would think that.  But, I am going to teach you how in my Video tutorial and this blog post today on how to make an explosion gatefold card.  If you follow me or have ever seen one of my videos you know that if I can do it then so can you.  Here's a look at the card that I made.

When I remade this card I decided to change the colors around just a little bit.  One the first version I made I used Cherry Cobbler Cardstock as the main color and Shaded Spruce as an accent color.  So, for the card that I made in the video tutorial I switched them around.  I used all the same supplies in both cards but just changed the card base color and the layers colors.  All the measurements and everything else were all the same.

You are going to start out with a 5 1/2" x 11" piece of cardstock as your card base and your designer series paper will also be that same size.  I used the Wonder of the Season Specialty Designer Series Paper for the inside and outside.  Once you have both of these piece cut you are going to score both at 2 3/4" on both sides.  Fold and burnish your cardstock as you normally would to make a gatefold card.  This card is a little larger than a standard size card so you will have to make a special envelope for it.

To create the explosion part of the card you will need to make a few other score lines, but we will be doing that by hand.  The first thing you are going to do is move the DSP down to 5 1/2" and make a mark at the top and bottom with a pencil.  Next you are going to fold all four corners into one of these points in the center.   This will help create the pop up explosion part.  After you watch the video you will totally understand.  You will need a piece of either Cherry Cobbler or Shaded Spruce Cardstock for the inside that measures 3 5/8" x 3 5/8" and a piece of Whisper White that measures 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".

For the outside you will need the a piece of Cherry Cobbler or Shaded Spruce Cardstocks that measures 1" x 11" for the belly band, 3 5/8" x 3 5/8", 3 1/4" x 3 1/4", (2) 2 5/8" x 5 3/8", a scrap of Whisper White Cardstock for the sentiment on the outside, a piece of Red Foil  Scrap for Stitched Starburst.  And some of the Wonder of the Season Specialty Designer Series Paper that measures (2) 2 1/2" x 5 1/4" for the outside.

I did realize while I was looking at my card last night the reason that I love this pack of DSP.  As a child my parents would keep me quite by handing me a old newspaper, phonebook, or anything and a pen and let me draw what my dad always referred to as "stickmen". No matter how old I got or how my artwork improved he always referred to them as that.  As I examined my card to make sure it was good enough for my Facebook Live that memory came rushing back to me.

Here's what the same card looks like with the different colored cardstock.  I also used the Wrapped In Texture Embossing Folders on the little square on the belly band.
