Prized Peony for The Spot Challenge #114

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you my card that I made for this weeks sketch challenge over at The Spot.  I used the Prized Peony Bundle and products from the Peony Garden Suite to create my card.  This was one of those stamp sets I knew I had to have when I saw it in the catalog.  Here's a look at my card .

Here's a look at the challenge sketch that inspired my card.  You can click here to see what the other design team members created and play along.

Tips & Tricks:

I started out by stamping my peonies in Tuxedo Black ink so that I could use my blends to color them.  One of the peonies I colored in Petal Pink, but the other I wanted to appear white.  To color white flowers you still have to have shadows for contrast and to make the flower look as if it's white.  If you just stamped the image on white paper it would be dull and lifeless.  So, to give it a little more life you have to add in your shadow colors.  With my white peony I used my Gray Granite blends in the shadow areas and the color lifter to blend the lightest one out.  Now my peony has life and not just a dull stamped image. For the center I used So Saffron, and Just Jade for the leaves.

To add a little texture and life to the background I used the Dainty Diamond Embossing Folder on the Basic Gray Cardstock layer.  This added a subtle interest to the card without over powering the peonies.  I love the little dots it creates that almost look like a stitched pattern.  I then added two strips of the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper to the front in Gray Granite.  Everything was attached with Stampin' Seal+ Adhesive and I popped the White Peony up on Stampin' Dimensionals.  To finish off my card I added a few of the Elegant Faceted Gems to the front.
