Ornate Garden Springtime Sampler Video Tutorial

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you the 12 x 12 Sampler that I made the other day using the designer series paper from the NEW Ornate Garden Suite.  The Ornate Suite of products will be in the Stampin' Up! 2020 Annual Catalog.  The lovely flowers in the Ornate Garden Suite Collection are a modern take on classic Victorian florals. The gold foil accented paper, gems, and shimmery ribbon will add sparkle and elegance to your projects. You’ll love what you can do with this versatile collection. Share your gratitude with the included sentiments or pair with any sentiments for all-occasion projects.  Here's a look at the sampler.

Tips & Tricks:

Samplers are a great thing to make for every occasion or holiday because they are great home decor pieces that are inexpensive and easily to make.  Another great thing about samplers are that you can create them any way you want; there's no right or wrong way to make one.  You can create a simple one the I did today.  All I did was figure out how big I wanted my sampler to be.  Typically most are 12" x 12" since that's a full sheet of scrapbook cardstock.  But, I have made them as small as 6" x 6".  Yes, there is a little math involved but, you can make that as simple or as hard as you want it to be.  I decided simple was best.  So I did simple math not this common core crap they are teaching kids nowadays.  You know the math that your kids or grandkids bring home and it takes twenty steps to get to a two step answer.  I did good old common basic math.  I decided that I could get nine 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" squares on my 12" x 12" cardstock and it look visually appealing.

So with the first part decided I then knew that I would need nine 3" x 3" squares.  So I cut pieces of the Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper and cut it down to 3" strips and then came back and cut that again at 3" the other way to get my squares.  I then picked my coordinating colors So I went with colors in the paper (which is always a great way to pick your coordinating colors because Stampin' Up! did the work for us this makes it easy to pull colors you know will work together).  I picked Old Olive and Terracotta Tile as my mat layers.  So I cut five Old Olive squares at 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 (which only took 1 sheet of cardstock) and four in Terracotta Tile.  Next I arranged the DSP onto each mat layer deciding what looked best which what color.  Now mind you have not glued one thing down.  So once I had the placement figured out I then arranged the matted layers onto my sampler base.  Once I was happy with that is when I started glueing my designer series paper squares to my cardstock squares.  At this point I went ahead and attached everything to my base.  I always make sure to have the same margins on all four sides and I use a straight edge to line everything up.  I look at this as building a house and I start at the bottom and add the first row, then the next lined up with the same boarder and then the top row.   So think foundation, walls, then roof.  After getting the house assembled I can start with the really fun stuff and stamp and embellish the sampler.

I started out then by stamping the two daisies from the Daisy Lane Stamp Set in Early Espresso Classic Ink.  My ink pad was very juicy so I went with second generation stamping so it wasn't quite as dark.  I stamped two of each daisy image from the stamp set twice.  When punched out you need two of each to make a full daisy.  So I added the small daisy which I stamped punched out with the small daisy punch and adhered together with a mini glue dot to the bottom left-hand side square up at the top.  I am thinking I am going to go back and add one of the Perennial Essence Floral Centers to the center of the small daisy for a added extra color to this one and tie in the the yellows of the paper.

For my top right-hand square I added the large daisy made and stamped the same way as the little one.  I added some of the old olive ribbon from the Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack behind.  The Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack gives you double the creative options with two spools of silky, shimmery ribbon. Use it on cards, tags, treat packages, and more.  You get 2 spools: 1 each of 2 colors (Old Olive and Terracotta Tile).  Each spool is 5 yards per spool so that's 10 yards total.   And the ribbon is a great size at 1/4" wide; which makes it great for every project.  To attach the ribbon all I did was add a little Tear & Tape Adhesive behind where I wanted my daisy to go, and made a z pattern with the ribbon securing it into the Tear & Tape.  Then I popped the daisy on top.

Next I used some scraps of Old Olive Cardstock and Terracotta Tile Cardstock to cut out the words Spring and time using the Hand-Lettered Prose Dies.  I arranged the letters to go across to panels for my sentiment panels.  I had Spring at the top and then off set the time in the center of the two.  I then stamped "it's your time to shine" from the Daisy Lane Stamp Set onto a scrap of Terracotta Tile cardstock in Early Espresso.  I made this into a little fishtail banner that I placed centered from the edge between the two die cut words.  To finish off the sampler I added a few of the new Gilded Gems sprinkled around the sampler.

April 2020 Blogging Friends Blog Hop: Baby Come Rockin'

Hello and welcome to this month's Blogging Friends Blog Hop.  This month is all about baby cards.  Last month the theme was all about weddings so I thought it would be a good time to share some baby cards.  For my baby card I went with a stamp set that when I saw it last April at OnStage I wanted it so bad.  I wanted it because I thought it was just the cutest thing ever with the mother and baby animals together.  The way they were showcased on the stamp set just made me fall in love with it.  So I thought the Wildly Happy Stamp Set would be a super great choice for my baby card for this month's hop.  Here's a look at my card.

Color Choices:

I started off after picking the stamp set with what colors to use.  I wasn't exactly sure on which of the super cute mother and baby animal image I was going to use for my card yet so I wasn't sure on the colors to use.  So I started looking at color options.  I thought about going either a traditional color scheme for a baby boy or baby girl.  But, I really didn't want to go very traditional; that and I really didn't think either of those would have fit with my super cute animal stamp I knew I wanted to use.  So then I thought about maybe a yellow, which would have went with the images in the set but I just wasn't feeling it.  So I did decided to go with a green.  I picked Soft Sea Foam.  I decided to match the Soft Sea Foam with Cajun Craze Calypso Coral and a little Crumb Cake.

Tips & Tricks:

Once I had the stamp set and the color combination nailed down it was time to pull products to go along with them.  I pulled my Subtles 6x6 Designer Series Paper, a few of the Basic Adhesive Backed Sequins, Stitched Shape Dies.  I figured that along the way I would end up using a few more supplies depending on what I did.  I decided to cut down a piece of the Soft Sea Foam gingham DSP from the Subtles Pack to 3 3/4 x 5.  At this point I narrowed it down to using the Foxes from the stamp set.  With the colors picked picking the stamped image was easy.  I attached the DSP to a piece of Cajun Craze Cardstock cut at 4 x 5 1/4.  I stamped the foxes onto a piece of Whisper White Cardstock in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink because I knew I was going to color them with my Stampin' Blends.

After stamping the foxes I started coloring them.  I decided to color the momma fox with Cajun Craze.  I started by adding the Dark Cajun Craze Stampin' Blend to where I wanted the shadows to be.  If you think about it they will go where the baby fox would be in the mommas embrace and where there were folds in the body.  Once I had the shadows in place I added the Light Cajun Craze Stampin' Blend to blend out the shadows and to add highlights to the fox.  I then colored the baby fox with Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends in the same manner.  Starting with the Dark Calypso Coral Stampin' Blend and then blending out with the Light Calypso Coral Stampin; Blend.  To finish off the coloring I added just a little Light Smoky Slate Stampin' Blend to the areas where the lines indicated on the image.  I did add just a teeny tiny bit of Petal Pink Light Stampin' Blend in the ears.

Once the coloring was complete I took the large stitched oval from the Stitched Shape Dies and cut the foxes out.  Then I took a large scalloped oval from the Layering Oval Dies to place behind my foxes.  I attached the two together with a little liquid glue.  I then stamped the sentiment Sweetest Baby in Calypso Coral Classic Ink and used one of the stitched circles dies from the Stitched Shapes Dies to cut out the sentiment.  I popped the oval using Stampin' Dimensionals.  I placed the stitched circle with the sentiment on the card front and slide it just slightly under the oval.  To finish off the card I added it to a 4 1/4 x 11 card base made from Crumb Cake Cardstock.  To give it the little extra touch I added some of the Basic Adhesive Backed Sequins to the card front and made a double bow of Linen Thread and attached it to the card using  a mini glue dot.

Smile - Daisy Lane Stamp Set

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I have a cute card for you using a stamp set that you may already have in your stash.  I used the Daisy Delight Stamp Set from the 2019 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog to Create today's card.   The Daisy Lane Stamp Set is a fun card to use for Springtime.  Well let's be honest it's a set that could be used for most anytime.  But, since the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and I am feeling pretty good today.  So good that I got up this morning and took out all the containers, lids, all the lids that I've been digging through for the last year or so that I can never find what goes with what; and took them all out of the cabinet and played the matching game this morning.  All the lids and containers that didn't have lids all are going to the trash.  So anyway I actually created this card during the inbetween season of Summer and Fall but, never got around to sharing with you all.  Here's a look at the card.

Tips & Tricks:

Show your friends how much you love and support them with a stunning daisy card made using the Daisy Lane Stamp Set.  I started off my card by taking some scrap pieces of So Saffron Cardstock to do my stamping on.  You want to make sure that the scraps you have are big enough to get four of the large daisies from the stamp set and two of the small.  So you can do this in any way that you want as long as they are big enough to put in the punches and punch them out.  I then stamped each daisy in So Saffron Classic Ink.

After stamping the daisies onto my cardstock I took the Light & Dark So Saffron Stampin' Blends and colored each petal.  Starting from the center of the petals I added the dark blend first and then came back and blended them out.  I added just a little of the color lifter at the lightest areas so that the ink would blend into the cardstock.   This allows for a more dimensional look to each flower with more tones and values then just stamping the daisy and punching it out.  Once all the coloring was complete.  I then came back on the top of one of the daisies and colored in the centers with my Light and Dark Soft Suede Stampin' Blends.  For the centers and to keep with the texture of the centers I used the thumping technique.  Basically I took the tip of my blend and I made small thumps or dots with the tip to create the texture.  I followed the shading of the stamped image to know where the darker areas should be and decreased as I got to the lighter areas.  I went back in with a white gel pen and added just a few white highlights in the centers.

After all the coloring was complete I used the two matching punches and punched out all the daisy pieces.  I added them together with mini glue dots.  I made sure to place the colored centers on top of each of the daisies.  Next I stamped the fern from the stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on the card base.  I stamped two ferns at the top and one at the bottom to make a triangular arrangement on my card.  After the black ink dried I added the three daisies with a Stampin' Dimensional underneath each.  I then stamped the Smile Sentiment in tuxedo black ink.  To finish off my card I added a few copper sequins I had from a Paper Pumpkin Kit.
