CASE the Catalog: Taking Inspiration from A Card in the Holiday Catalog

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you the card I made CASEing the Brightly Gleaming Note Card on page 30 of the 2019 Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog.  If you have never heard the term CASE before it means Copy And Share Everything or Copy And Selectively Edit.  The Stampin' Up! catalogs are filled with inspiration and tons of ideas; that are great CASEing material.  When you CASE a card you don't have to copy it exactly, you can simply take inspiration from it.  That's what I did today, I took inspiration from the sketch or design of the card and the use of the metallic elements.  Here's a look at my card and then I will share with you the card that inspired it.

Here's my the card that I drew my inspiration from.  This little Christmas note card features the Christmas Gleaming Stamp Set and Night of Navy, Very Vanilla and Mossy Meadow cardstock along with some copper foil sheets, and the Brightly Gleaming Designer Series Paper.  It also features one of the new Stars Designer Elements, one of the Brightly Gleaming Foil Elements, and a copper embossed holly leaf and berries as the main focal image.

For my card today I used the sketch from the card, but instead of designer series paper I used the Subtles 3d embossing folder to create texture on the card.  My card  base is a piece of Thick Whisper White cut at 5 x 7 scored at 3 1/2.  The embossed piece of cardstock was cut at 3 x 5 1/2.
I kept with the metallic theme of the card but instead of copper I went with silver. I love the look of silver with just about any other color.  But this time I paired it with Whisper White, and Smoky Slate.  After embossing the 3 x 5 1/2 piece of whisper white I took some Delicata Shimmery Silver ink and a sponge dauber and created a little metallic color on the textured whisper white.  I started out going around in a circle and then came back and change direction to blend out any lines.  I will say that the Delicata ink is a little warming in tone than the other silver pieces on my card.

I then added a 1/2" strip of silver foil behind the textured piece and attached the embossed piece to my card base.  Next I stamped the wreath from Seasonal Wreaths Stamp Set in Delicata silver ink and then coated it with silver embossing powder and heat set it.  I used the matching dies and cut it out.  I repeated this process with the large leaf in the same way but on a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock.  I also embossed and cut out one of the small leaf dies in silver foil.  Then the debate came do I color in the wreath with a little watercolor or do I leave it simple and let everything work together.   I went with the keep it nice and simple and elegant looking.

Once everything was cut out with their matching die it was time to start laying everything out.  So I decided on the placement and keep it just like the sketch.  Large element in the upper third of the card and the other elements coming off it toward the fold.  I attached the silver embossed Fall wreath with a little multipurpose liquid glue.  I then took the silver thread and wrapped it around my fingers a few times to make a nest of loops that I would adhere to the card.  If you notice back up in the reference photo the concept artist used linen thread for the loops.  I attached my loops with a little snail placed where the large leave would go. I attached the loops into the snail making sure to get the open ends in the adhesive.  I then added the large silver embossed leaf on three dimensionals over the loops.  But, the dimensionals not only act as a new level for the leaves but it helps to secure the loops in place as well.
To finish off my little elegant note card I added the silver foil embossed leaf to the larger leaf with a dimensional and added a silver heat embossed sentiment on a little whisper white cardstock.  I also decided to pop that up as well with a few dimensionals.  I went with a sentiment that reads Happy Everything from Seasonal Wreath Stamp Set.  I thought it was a perfect sentiment because you could use it for so many different occasions.  It could go for a wedding or well anything really.
That finished off my card I hope that you like my version of the Brightly Gleaming note card from the Holiday Catalog and I hope that you got a few little tips on how to use your catalogs for inspiration.  Your catalogs are so much more then just a book of products but is filled with tons and tons of inspiration that you can use to create your projects.

Kylie's International Blog Highlights Daisy Lane Encouragement Card

Hello and welcome to my second post today; I am going to share with you a card that I made for Kylie's International Blog Highlights.  I used my Featured stamp set the Daisy Lane Stamp set for my card today.  I am going to sharing with you all types of cards you can create with it this week.  The theme for the Highlights was Encouragement and the Daisy Lane Stamp Set has some great sentiments for just that reason.  Plus some wonderful images as well.  Okay okay here's my card.

A Little Shine:

For this card I used the fern image from the stamp set and stamped it onto a piece of Pretty Peacock (2019-2021 In Color) cardstock with Versamark ink.  Versamark is a clear sticky ink used for embossing or watermarking.  I then added silver embossing powder to the sticky ink and heat set it.  If you haven't ever watched a image heat emboss it's so much fun and amazing to watch the powder go to a molten liquid and then harden again.  After I had that done I went ahead and heat embossed the sentiment that reads "it's your time to shine" with the silver embossing powder on a strip of Basic Black Cardstock, and sat it aside to cool completely.  I then added my peacock layer to a Basic Black mat cut at 4 x 5 1/4 and added it to my thick Whisper White card base (5 1/2 x 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4).
I then added some silver thread loops to the front of the card using just a little snail behind where the sentiment was going.  I then added the sentiment on a couple Stampin' Dimensionals.  At this point I felt like it still needed a little something something.  So, I got out my clear wink a stella brush pen and flicked on some glitter.  This added just the right touch, sadly it doesn't really show up in the photos.  You can kind of see it here in the close up.
For the inside of the card I stamped a few of the ferns in Pretty Peacock ink on a piece of regular whisper white cardstock.  I also stamped Friend from the stamp set for the inside sentiment and then attached it to the inside.  I also did the same thing to the envelope.
I can totally see me at Christmas using this card but having changed the sentiment to a more Holiday Greeting instead of the encouragement one I used today.  I think it would make a very pretty Christmas Card.
I just love how it turned out and I hope that you do too.  If you love my card please vote for me as your favorite over on the highlight page.  If you find another designers card you love more please vote for them; they are all great.  And, by the way have created some fabulous cards for you all.  To vote for my card and check out what everyone created click here.
